ULEZ campervans and motorhomes

ULEZ campervans and motorhomes from 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes follow the van rules: a diesel needs Euro 6 and a petrol needs Euro 4. One that falls short pays £12.50 a day in London.

Which campervans meet the ULEZ rules?

The rule is about the engine, not the body. A diesel camper needs Euro 6, which most diesel vans sold new from September 2016 meet. A petrol one needs Euro 4, found on most petrol vans from January 2006.

Many campervans are converted vans, so the engine’s standard counts, not the year it was fitted out. Lighter campers are judged like cars, with the same Euro 4 and Euro 6 standards. TfL lists motorcaravans with vans.

Heavier motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes

A motorhome over 3.5 tonnes gross weight falls outside the van rules. Check it on TfL’s vehicle checker before you travel, and see whether the London LEZ applies too.

If your campervan doesn't pass

You pay £12.50 for each day it’s driven in the zone. Some motorhomes can be retrofitted: the government’s CVRAS scheme certifies kits for vans, minibuses and motorhomes, and TfL accepts them.

Campers in the disabled tax class don’t pay until 24 October 2027. Every option if a vehicle fails.

Common questions

Does my campervan count as a car or a van?

It depends on its weight. From 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes gross weight, TfL applies the van rules. The V5C logbook shows the weight and the body type.

Do I pay the ULEZ if my campervan is parked in the zone?

No. The charge is for days it’s driven in the zone. A camper that stays parked all day doesn’t owe it.
