ULEZ exemptions
The ULEZ charge doesn't apply to three kinds of vehicle: those built before 1973, those in the historic tax class that are over 40 years old, and those in the disabled tax class until 24 October 2027.
Who is exempt from the ULEZ charge?
Some exemptions are automatic: the DVLA record holds the tax class, and TfL reads it from there. Some other exemptions require you to apply to TfL, for example the grace period that covers wheelchair accessible vehicles. Taxis licensed in London are exempt and have their own separate rules.

If you hold a Blue Badge
A Blue Badge alone doesn't make a car exempt from the ULEZ. Your car must either hold a tax class of disabled or disabled passenger, or be registered with TfL under its grace period for people who get certain disability benefits.
Questions people often ask about exemptions
What age must a car be to avoid ULEZ?
Cars made before 1 January 1973 are exempt. Exemption is possible for cars older than 40 years, provided they're in the historic vehicle tax class.
Do Blue Badge holders get an exemption from ULEZ?
No, the badge alone isn't enough. It's decided by the tax class of the vehicle, or by a grace period from TfL.
