Non ULEZ compliant cars
A car that fails the ULEZ standard can still drive in, but you pay £12.50 a day. Otherwise you could get a different car, join a car club, or claim an exemption.
Your choices
If you drive in only once in a while, pay just for those days. Swap to a car that complies: petrol models from 2006 pass the standard, and they're some of the cheapest ones that do. For trips into London, a car club or public transport works instead. See if an exemption applies to you: cars in the disabled tax class are exempt until 24 October 2027.
What the charge costs
- £12.50daily, unless your car, van or motorbike meets the rules
- 24 hoursall year apart from 25 December
- 3 daysafter your trip to settle up
- 90 daysthe most you can pay in advance
These figures come from TfL.
Retrofit
No approved retrofit can bring a private car up to the ULEZ standard. Retrofits are approved for certain vans, minibuses, buses and lorries.
